At Comrades to Youths Africa, we believe that play is a tool for purpose. Through the Play4Change Program, we’re turning sports fields and board game rooms into platforms for learning, leadership, and climate action and the momentum is only growing.
Over the past few months, Play4Change has evolved from a student’s suggestion into a draft on paper and its now becoming promising movement for students and community engagement, youth empowerment, environmental responsibility, and gender inclusion.
What is Play4Change?
Play4Change fuses sports, games, life skills education, environmental conservation and SDG awareness to empower student-youths as change agents. Whether it’s football, netball, or board games, each activity is designed not only to build physical strength but to instill values of leadership, respect, climate consciousness, and teamwork.
Program Highlights So Far
Here are some of the milestones we’ve reached between February and June 2025:
- 16 New Schools Join the Earth League
We are happy to share that the District Education Office recommended 16 schools to join the Earth League!
We are currently awaiting the official introductory letter from the District Sports Committee, and we plan to reach out to the schools later this month to begin onboarding and co-creating action plans with the sports teachers.
- 2. Upcoming Survey on Girls in Sports
We are preparing to roll out a comprehensive survey in the 16 schools to gather insights on how girls can be better supported and included in sports activities. This survey will explore:
- Which sports girls are most interested in
- Barriers they face in participating
- Broader gender inclusivity concerns within school sports
The goal is to design a more inclusive Earth League, led by insights from students and teachers.
- Expanding Our Impact – Corporate Partnerships Welcome
We are now inviting corporate companies and partners to join us in growing the Earth League. This is an opportunity for brands that care about youth empowerment, sports, and climate action to:
- Sponsor inter-school matches
- Support gear and tree planting kits
- Join cleanup campaigns
- Fund transport and facilitation for Play4Change facilitators
Together, we can build a stronger, greener, more inclusive future; one game at a time.
